As I am preparing form my major project I decided to prepare the research on two lifestyle journalists recognized for their work, each in own field.
My project is going to be a content article in a lifestyle field. My aim in this research was to prepare myself for writing, get the ideas, learn about the style of the articles.
Tanya Akim is and American lifestyle journalist, writing for magazines like Forbes, Cosmopolitan, Byrdie, Marie Claire, The Cut. She is a Los Angeles-based beauty, wellness, and culture writer. She does not use social media, but in free time enjoys time at the farm with her horses and alpacas. She grew up with a chemist father who encouraged her love of science – she is known to spend her free time reading medical journals and clinical studies. Her self-education is partly driven by necessity, as she is dealing with skin conditions caused by celiac disease and endometriosis treatment.
Style of her writing is light, looks effortless, while in fact I know she puts lots of effort into her work, preparing from technical side. She tests beauty products on her own skin and then writes about them. One of my favorites' is a Byrdie article about Dr Barbara Sturm's skin care line. The article might look like a product review but it is backed up with an experience of perioral dermatitis and other skin issues information.
Jonathon Keats, an experimental thinker, philosopher, based in San Francisco, has been involved in various unique projects. His experiments break the rules and show that being curious is important. He thinks everyone should be more open-minded and explore their interests, even if it goes against what society expects. Keats believes in embracing wonder and going beyond limits on knowledge and expertise. In 2000, he sat in a chair for 24 hours, selling his thoughts as art with a nude model in the gallery. He also created self-portraits using visitors' fingerprints, composed music for tuning forks, and sold imaginary properties. In 2003, Keats copyrighted his mind to extend his "intellectual property" beyond death. He attempted to genetically engineer God and explored unconventional ideas like customized metric systems and abstract art. He also choreographed a ballet for honeybees.
As a journalist Keats writes about art, his work can be seen in Forbes magazine, San Francisco magazine, Art in Amercia and Artweek. He is also a book critic and
an author of two novels : Pathology of Lies, published in English by Warner Books, and Lighter Than Vanity, published exclusively in Russian by Eksmo.
