Welcome to Spring term 2024!

My second term of studies begins now and I would like to spend a moment reflecting on a aspect of communication. During Christmas break I was visited by my family members and my parents and thought of communication came to my mind multiple times. Many times I was misunderstood or had incorrect impression on something that was said.

Communication in a family is one of the key aspects, as lack of clarity, assumptions or different perspectives can affect a relationship and cause a conflict. With all of my heart I was trying to understand other side's perspective and stay open to their point of view. Christmas holiday was spent in a nice atmosphere and with no issues, although some problems with communication occurred.

I have spend more time then usual watching films, getting up to date with some Polish movies, and one of the movies really touched me. The movie spoke about children, their problems and lack of understanding or communication with their families, which led to tragic finale.

The movie was created in 2018 by Marek Koterski, that is very well known movie director. He is famous for touching a real problems in a grotesque way. His movies are full of humour but also very difficult from the emotional point of view. The movie is called 7 emotions ( org, 7 uczuc) . And the main characters are children played by adult actors, that are also very well known in Poland.

As per cinemaparadiso.co.uk movie portal "Fear, anger, sadness, joy, disgust, jealousy, shame. Adas Miauczynski returns to his childhood, when - like most of us - he had a big problem with naming the accompanying emotions. To improve the quality of his adult life, he decides to return to that not-as it turns out-carefree period to learn to experience the seven basic feelings. This extremely unpredictable journey to the past abounds in a series of hilarious, even comic situations, but it also carries the power of emotion and reflection." (Cinema paradiso, 2018).

I found the movie very therapeutic as it has touched some of my childhood issues. Watching it with my parents was difficult. The tragic finale of the movie really hit me and made me rethink my ways of parenting. We all come from different backgrounds, different families, we all have our own luggage when creating a family. It's our responsibility to take care of children, help them understand their emotions, keep them out of serious responsibilities and issues for as long as possible and to communicate with them. Communication is also one of the key points of the movie 7 emotions.

And as said by American author and coach Tony Robins for inc.com "To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication with others" (Robins, 2019). To me this means that if we are about to communicate with a child, we supposed to put ourselves in their shoes, to be able to communicate with them effectively and to understand each other.
